Khambhat, once known as Cambay, is located in the Indian state of Gujarat. Once an important city with a flourishing maritime trade, Khambhat lost its place in international trade due to the silting up of its harbour. Khambhat is one of the few cities where the art of Agate bread making is still practiced. Khambhat was ruled by the Nawabs of Cambay, Marathas and then the British before becoming part of the Bombay Presidency. With a diverse cultural identity, Khambhat is famous for its sweets and snacks.
