The city of Cuttack in the Indian state of Odisha gets its name from the anglicized Sanskrit word 'Kataka' which means 'Fort'. Cuttack is developed around the ancient Barabati Fort and is situated on the Mahanadi river delta. Cuttack has been ruled by Mughals, Marathas and the British and has a lot of history before becoming a part of independent India.
